Seems, government websites are turning out to be soft targets for hackers. According to Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot, over 270 government websites have been hacked or defaced till July this year.

Sources informed, hacked websites belonged to the government agencies of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and Manipur.
However, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is regularly issuing alerts for users and operators to avoid such vulnerabilities.
To the reader’s surprise, a total number of 201, 303, 308 and 273 government websites were hacked during the year 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 (till July) respectively.
Pilot further added, during the period December 2011 to February 2012, a total number of 113 government websites were hacked.
