Seems, the Indian government is now moving ahead with its initial threat to tighten the noose around social media. According to a latest update, Twitter might face legal action if the popular microblogging site does not comply with Indian government''s demand to check disparaging content posted by its users.
Earlier, representative from Indian government told several leading Internet companies including Facebook and Google to pre-screen content before publishing it on user’s profile and restrict users to publish disparaging content.
Indicating this, a senior government official has stated, Twitter has already been conveyed that the Indian government may take any legal action, if it will not cooperate to find the source. Twitter also need to curtail the inflammatory messages against any objectionable content.
It is found, numerous countrymen are in the favor of latest law, while some web critics are criticizing the move saying, the latest change will mark a new trend in the Internet companies bowing to the demands of authoritarian regimes.
Some other industry watchers pointed out that such a move may be self-defeatist for any social media site.
