The Udaipur market is not in a good form, as claimed by the dealers from this market. This is also what most of the dealers from other regions are found cribbing about and Udaipur counts itself one among them too. The slowdown leaves behind a deep scar that IT dealers purportedly find it hard to get rid of. However IT trade remains unhampered in spite of heavy rains in Udaipur and other parts of the state that is otherwise affecting many other businesses
The current Udaipur market presents a grim picture that refuses to show any signs of recovery. The slowdown that has hit the market is forcing partners here to think of alternatives. While they are already seen grappling with broader issues like the weakening of Indian rupee and increase in price of hardware that is indirectly making an impact on their businesses, local issues like the change in customer buying over the years, the regular payment related problems and competition that persists between partners and service lacunae continue to bother the IT business in the region at the same time.
The desktop market in the region has also seen a slump in the recent years, further aggravating the market situation. “The performance has gone down beyond expectations,” explains Anil Kothari of Parishram Informatics. “Customers opt more for laptops over desktops and this is eating away a major chunk of our business.”
Udaipur has also not awakened to the Retail revolution that has gobbled up almost every tier II and III town today. The market still remains channel-oriented with approx 60-70% of it going for the channel model of business. “Though retail promises a constant cash flow, the market has not opened itself to the retail business,” points out Pavan Kothari of Ficusa Enterprises.
Surprisingly the recent rains that almost brought the city to a standstill could not affect much of their business. And the reason cited for this is simple. “With the consumer market consecutively going down in the last few years, our trade has remained mostly dependent on corporate, SOHO and the SMB segment. Owing to which, the incessant rains that continued for days at a stretch did not hamper our business much as it did to other businesses,” says Kothari.
