With the expected rise of first-time smartphone users over the next year as well as the decline in feature phone manufacturing and usage, it is expected that China will account for majority of smartphone shipments in Asia-Pacific region by 2016.
According to a latest report, the Asia-Pacific annual smartphone shipment is likely to reach 594 million by 2016. To the reader’s surprise, it is expected that China will account for almost half of the shipments in the region.
The report further make a surprising revelation that smartphone sales will extend beyond tier-one and tier-two cities in India.
It is noteworthy that China's domestic feature phone vendors are rapidly moving their businesses to smartphones. Chinese vendors are getting their low-cost chipsets from companies such as MediaTek, Spreadtrum and Qualcomm's QRD, reliable sources informed.
Market watchers added, Chinese phones are becoming popular with consumers, especially because their prices are close to those of other feature phones available in the market.
Seems, the war between Chinese smartphone market and high end smartphones getting fiercer with each passing day
