Govt to create EDF of Rs.. 10k crore

The Government has proposed to create an electronics development fund (EDF) of Rs.. 10,928.96 crore ($2 billion). Companies in the electronics systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) clusters all across India will have access to this fund.

There are already five clusters in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Punjab, and Bangalore. The EDF is aimed at promoting research and development and innovation among the electronics companies.

''The Government is planning to set up an ecosystem in these clusters that would involve skill development and would give preference to products made out of these clusters,'' said Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary at Department of Electronics and Information Technology.
