“Take the phone but not the data, please!”,
DATA64’s Smart Phone Security Survey, 2012 (India)
For Immediate Release: November, 2012, Mumbai….. Data64 Techno Solutions Pvt. Ltd., India's leading Cyber Crime Investigation Company incubated by Science and Technology Park, a STEP promoted by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has conducted a "Smart Phone Security Survey 2012 (India)" in the month of October-November.  The Survey Report was published on 28th November, 2012.

The survey was performed on both online and offline participants. About 6230 smart phone users from all age groups took part in the survey. Students from the State Board, ICSE Board, CBSE Board and IB schools participated. The survey saw participation from college students as well as working professionals from across verticals including Accounting, Banking, Financial Services, Construction, Ecommerce, Education, Entertainment, Hospitality, Information Technology (IT) and Law.
The survey revealed that 75% of the participants were extra cautious of the data stored in their Smartphones as compared to the phone itself and approximately 16% of the participants, mostly between the age group of 22-30, were ignorant about data backup in their phones.
This group primarily falls into the category of Executives and Managers, for whom the data in their phone plays a significant role for daily business chores and is of utmost importance.

Mr. Rohas Nagpal, Director, Data64, said, “This survey was conducted to create awareness on what people from every age group understand and feel about data in the phone vis-à-vis the physical device itself. While initial concerns about security, service and availability of Smart Phones have diminished, users’ ignorance towards storing data could be a grim issue and needs to be addressed in time.”
