Telcos 3G drive needs to have Eco-friendly approach

While 3G is surely pushing better broadband speeds for the end customer, in its present state, the technology is proving to be far less eco-friendly when it comes to giving Carbon foot-print.

Telcos 3G drive needs to have Eco-friendly approach

When we think about 3G, the idea makes us think about making data/voice/fax affordable to rural populations – it is surely helping in this objective but at the same time the base stations driving operator’s 3G networks are burning a lot of oil in order to push 3G signals.

Hence, the time is right for telcos to look for better eco-friendly solutions that can act a little more friendly towards the mother nature and at the same time ensure better coverage for the end user communities in smaller locations.

In today’s scenario, emerging markets are highly attractive and rewarding to wireless operators. Although dominated by low income subscribers, operators have crafted diverse business models that enable profitable operation, including ones with low entrance tariffs, when clubbed with an eco-friendly approach all this can act a big boon for the telco community of the country.

Using such models and exploiting the cost and performance gains of 3G networks, operators are ideally poised to deploy a broad range of data services that vitally improve ARPU and profitability for the telco community. Such services already include mobile Internet, mobile music, wireless broadband, social networking, mobile advertising, mobile commerce, video related services and social improvement services.

With the help of these innovative 3G data services and business models, operators continue to improve the quality of life for citizens of emerging markets and they can do even better on reducing the Carbon footprint of their base stations and hence, helping towards bringing the real telecom revolution for the common masses.
