The IMC not only upholds excellence in its aspirations, it also rewards it with equal aplomb and celebration. In this context, the IMC has instituted Inclusive Innovation Award, 2012 to recognize and honour product or service innovations which are inclusive, capable of commercial exploitation, sustainable and scalable. The award is sponsored by the R. Jhunjhunwala Foundation. The KPMG India is Knowledge Partner and Radio Big FM is Radio Partner. The Award amount is Rs 20 Lakhs for the Winner and Certificates to the next 4 best entries.
Inclusive means “more from less for more and more people”. It means making products or providing services at very low cost using minimal raw material, time and other resources so as to make them affordable for large sections of the society. The award primarily intends to recognize the contribution of inclusive innovators, provide them mentoring support and link them with entrepreneurs.
Any individual, public sector enterprise, government, private sector enterprise, academic/ research institution or NGO/trust of Indian origin is eligible to be considered for the award. The product or service could be under development, developed or could even be in the market. If it is the market should have been launched before Jan 1, 2012. Product or service development which are at the stage or level where it can be commercialized and/or scaled up will be given preference. Any sort of innovation be it technology innovation, business process innovation, workflow innovation or organizational innovation is eligible.
The entries should be innovative, have an impact on the society at large, be sustainable and be affordable. The deadline for receiving applications is 30th September, 2012. The award management or jury comprising of IMC Committee Members, personnel from IMC or persons appointed/ engaged by IMC, will select up to 5 nominees who would be summoned for a final question and answer session. Thereafter, the distribution of the awards is scheduled for October /November.
It is worth mentioning that the jury may decide, in order to maintain high standards of these awards, not to give the award to any participant. The jury will select one winner who will be given financial support of Rs 20 lakhs in a form that is considered appropriate by the jury, which could include initial seed capital. Each of the other short listed nominees will be presented a Certificate of Appreciation/Recognition or any other form of recognition as considered appropriate by the jury. The winner will also be provided mentoring support to take the innovation to the market or, if the product or service is already in the market, to enhance its scale/level.
