Acer Strikes The No.1 Position Worldwide in the Notebook Segment

Acer Inc has been progressively gaining grounds to become the No.1 notebook vendor with a market share of 15.35 per cent in the second quarter of 2012 worldwide.  The company has strongly re-established its presence in its key markets such as Europe, South East Asia and other emerging countries.

In India too, the company has gained its momentum and bounced back to the No 2 position with 13.4 per cent market share in the total PC market (Source: Gartner). Acer capitalized on its business model that proved to be successful for the company.  Acer has traditionally followed an indirect business model and closely worked on efficiency and tight inventory management. Acer approached its business through its redefine Transaction and Relationship business module. Acer’s business strategy clearly distinguishes the roles of both these business domain while keeping the motto of the company’s goal to achieve deeper penetration in the marketplace. The Transaction business unit primarily focuses on the consumer side of the business, including retail operations and expansion in the upcountry markets through its Outreach programme established in early 2011. While the relationship business focused on key verticals such as BFSI, SMB, Government, Education and K12. Through this focused approach and strong partner network, Acer has established a significant presence in the marketplace in the AMJ quarter to become the No.2 player in India.

A number of sizeable government wins complemented by a strong demand from K12 and education verticals has helped Acer maintain its strong position in the desktop, netbook and TFT category. The company also enjoys the No.1 position in the commercial desktop segment. Acer’s consecutive success in these segments clearly embarks on the company’s leadership position in the marketplace. With a strong QoQ growth of 2.7 percent in the desktop category and 5.35 percent in the netbook category, the company has successfully retained its No.2 position in the Indian PC market.
